A Handful of Italy’s Gorgeous Must-See Coastal Towns

Possessing nearly a decade of legal experience, Sarah Baia functions as a staff attorney with The Hartford in Albany, New York. Outside of work, Sarah Baia enjoys traveling and lists Italy among her favorite destinations.

One of the most charming parts of Italy is its coastline, and visitors would be remiss not to see at least one of the small towns that dot it. Positano, for example, is widely regarded as the most gorgeous town in the country. Located on the Amalfi Coast, Positano also allows travelers to visit Grotta dello Smeraldo, Ischia, Capri, and other towns by a short boat trip.

On the Italian Rivera, there are five towns that comprise the Cinque Terre, and all of them are worth a visit. The most famous, however, is Manarola. Known for its bright, colorful buildings, it is constructed entirely on a foundation of black rock that hangs over a marina.

Right on the heel of Southern Italy is Santa Cesarea Terme, which is on a plateau overlooking the blue sea. Here, visitors find thermal springs and natural caves woven into the cliffs. Because this town is not as popular with tourists, it has a distinctive Italian charm not found in many other places.
